How to Pack Fragile Items for Moving?

Expert Answer Updated July 2026 Quick Read · 3 min
Expert Answer

Quick Answer

Wrap each piece individually in tissue → bubble wrap → place in divider box. Label FRAGILE on all 4 sides. Never stack heavy items on top.

Glassware & Crockery

  1. Tissue paper first: Wrap each glass/plate in 2-3 layers of packing tissue to prevent scratching
  2. Bubble wrap second: Add a layer of bubble wrap, secure with tape
  3. Divider boxes: Use corrugated cardboard divider boxes — each item in its own compartment
  4. Pack vertically: Plates should stand on edge (like records), not flat — 60% less breakage
  5. Fill gaps: Crumpled newspaper or packing peanuts fill empty space to prevent movement
💡 Pro Tip: Pack your heaviest crockery at the bottom of the box, lightest at the top. Write "THIS SIDE UP ↑" on the box.

Television (LED/OLED)

  • Original box is best: Keep your TV's original foam-padded box — nothing protects better
  • No original box– Ask your packers for a custom TV carton with foam corner protectors (costs ₹500–800 extra, worth it)
  • Screen protection: Always place a thin foam sheet or moving blanket directly on the screen
  • Transport upright: Never lay a flat-screen TV flat during transit — the screen can crack from pressure
  • For 55"+ TVs: Wooden crates with internal foam brackets — demand this for expensive TVs

Mirrors & Glass Furniture

  • Apply masking tape in a star/grid pattern across the mirror face (if it breaks, tape holds shards together)
  • Wrap in moving blanket or thick corrugated cardboard
  • Add foam corner protectors on all 4 corners
  • Always transport mirrors standing vertically, never flat
  • For glass table tops — remove from table frame and pack separately

Electronics & Computer

  • Desktop PC: Remove GPU (graphics card) and HDD/SSD — pack in anti-static bags separately. Tower goes in foam-lined box
  • Laptop: Carry in your own bag — do NOT put in movers' truck
  • Gaming PC: Water cooling loops should be drained. Remove tower fans if possible
  • All electronics: Take transit insurance — costs only ₹200–500 but covers ₹50,000+ damage
⚠️ Important: Always take photos of your electronics BEFORE handing to movers. These photos are proof of original condition for insurance claims.
