For a move within the city, the size of the home sets the broad band and the details of the job decide where you land inside it.

The bands assume a normal local move with packing, loading, one vehicle, unloading and basic placement at the new home. They do not automatically include tax, transit cover, AC or appliance technician work, storage, a second trip or unpacking. If a quote lands well below the band, find out what it leaves out before you count it as a saving.

BHK is only a shorthand. A well-furnished 2 BHK with a sofa set, a dining table, a large fridge and forty cartons can be more work than a sparsely furnished 3 BHK. That is why the house shifting calculator works from your actual items rather than the number of bedrooms.

Local corridors: why the route changes the job, not just the kilometres

On a local move, distance matters less than most people expect. Crew hours, access at both buildings and the number of trips usually decide the final figure. A 4 km move from a third-floor walk-up with a long carry can cost more than a 25 km move between two buildings with service lifts and a loading bay.

Whitefield to Kengeri versus HSR Layout to BTM Layout

Whitefield to Kengeri is a cross-city move from the eastern edge to the south-west. Whichever route the driver takes, the vehicle and crew spend a good part of the day on the road. If either building only allows loading or unloading in a fixed window, a long drive can push unloading into the evening or even the next morning. Ask the mover when loading will start, when they expect to reach, and whether unloading will happen the same day.

HSR Layout to BTM Layout is almost next door, so the drive itself is short. But if the BTM flat is in an older building on a narrow road, the crew may spend more time carrying than driving. A short distance does not cancel out stairs, a small lift or a truck that has to park at the end of the lane.

Older lanes and large gated complexes

In older parts of the city such as Malleshwaram, Basavanagudi or the interior lanes of Jayanagar, a larger truck may not be able to stop near the gate. The mover then either parks on the main road and carries the goods, or shuttles them in a smaller vehicle. In big gated complexes along Sarjapur Road, Whitefield or Electronic City, the questions are different: how far the tower is from the gate, whether the truck can enter, basement height limits and the service lift booking. None of this should appear as a fixed area surcharge. It changes the labour time and the vehicle plan, and a good estimate explains how.

Details to give the mover for both addresses

• Floor number, whether there is a lift, and roughly how large it is.
• Whether a service lift has to be booked, and the permitted time window.
• Where the truck can stop and how far it is from there to the door, including steps.
• Gate pass, move-out or move-in permission, and any deposit the society asks for.
• Heavy or awkward items: almirahs, large sofas, glass tops, a double-door fridge, a piano or gym equipment.

Give the same details to every mover you speak to. If one quote is based on "lift available" and another on "stairs", you are not comparing the same move.

Intercity moving charges from Bangalore: route examples by mode

Intercity moving charges from Bangalore depend on the volume, the route, and above all the mode: whether your goods travel in a shared (part load) vehicle or a dedicated truck. The figures below are the planning bands from our route pages, with the mode each one assumes. Open the route page for detail on that corridor.

Where a row says "mode to be confirmed", the published band does not separate shared and dedicated transport. Ask which one a quote is based on before you put it next to another.

Shared and dedicated are different services

In a shared or part-load move, your goods take up part of a vehicle that also carries other customers' consignments. The mover may wait to fill the vehicle, route it through more than one drop, or transfer goods at a hub. You usually pay less, but the delivery window is wider and you have less say over the exact day. A dedicated truck carries only your goods, goes direct and is priced for the whole vehicle. It costs more and gives you a tighter, more predictable timeline.

So a shared quote and a dedicated quote are not two prices for the same thing. On Bangalore to Pune, for example, the shared band for a 2 BHK is ₹14,000–₹25,000 with a 5–8 day window, while the dedicated band is ₹28,000–₹45,000 with a 2–3 day window. Choose the mode first, based on how fixed your dates are, and then compare movers within that mode.

Driving time is not the same as moving days

A truck can cover some routes from Bangalore in a day of driving, but a door-to-door move takes longer than the drive. There is the packing and loading day, any wait for a shared vehicle to fill, rest halts, checkpoints and the unloading slot your new society allows. The transit windows in the table are planning windows for the journey. Ask each mover when the count starts (from loading or from dispatch), and whether unloading happens on arrival or on the next working day.

Truck-only, packing-only or full service: know what you are buying

A truck-only quote for a 2 BHK will always look far cheaper than full service, but it is a different purchase. Before comparing figures, check which of these you have actually been quoted.

Truck-only can make sense for a few cartons, a cot and a study table when friends are helping. For a fridge, glass furniture, a large TV or a heavy wardrobe, the savings rarely justify the risk.

What a moving estimate is made of: packing, labour, truck and the rest

When people ask about packing, loading and unloading cost, they are usually looking at the labour-heavy lines of a quote. A complete estimate has a few more. Mover formats vary, so use this list to check that every line is either priced, included or clearly marked "not included".

Fuel sits inside the transport line. Be wary of a separate fuel percentage added after the quote is agreed; there is no standard figure for it, and a fair estimate builds expected fuel into the vehicle cost.

Do packers and movers in Bangalore charge per km?

A per-km figure alone does not price a complete house move. Ask whether it covers only vehicle travel or also packing, loading, unloading, tolls and other work. Vehicle size, shared or dedicated use, your inventory and access at both buildings also affect the estimate. Compare the full payable total for the same goods, addresses and service scope rather than multiplying kilometres by an advertised rate.

What a low headline price often leaves out

A quote is not "cheap" until you know what it covers. These are the gaps that most often appear between the first figure and the final bill:

• Destination unloading or placement. Some quotes cover unloading only to the ground floor or the building entrance.
• Tax written as "extra". Without a rate and a taxable base, you cannot work out the real total.
• Wrapping. Fragile items may be packed, while sofas, wardrobes and the dining table travel unwrapped.
• Dismantling and reassembly. Often assumed by the customer and missing from the quote.
• Appliance work. AC uninstall and reinstall, washing machine fitting or TV mounting are frequently outside the mover's scope.
• Long carry, stairs or a shuttle vehicle. Particularly at buildings the truck cannot reach.
• A second trip. If the vehicle quoted is too small for your actual inventory.
• Storage and redelivery. If your new flat is not ready on the moving day.
• Waiting time. If the lift is not available in the slot or the society holds the truck at the gate.

There is no single fee for any of these that applies across Bangalore. The point is to get each one priced, included or excluded in writing before you decide.

Worked example: comparing two quotes for the same 2 BHK

This is a hypothetical example built to show the method. It is not a real customer's invoice and the figures are illustrative only.

The move both quotes are for: a 2 BHK with a double bed, a two-door wardrobe, a three-seater sofa, a fridge, a washing machine, a TV, one split AC and about 25 cartons. The old flat is on the third floor with a lift that is too small for the sofa and wardrobe, and the truck has to stop about 50 metres from the tower. The new flat is on the second floor with no lift. Assume one assessed vehicle and one trip planned for the same day; the large items still need a safe stair and doorway assessment at both buildings.

Quote A arrives as "₹7,500 for packing, loading and transport". Quote B arrives as "₹12,272 including GST". On the surface, A looks ₹4,772 cheaper. Here is what happens when both are put on the same scope, using the hypothetical written scope for each quote.

Once both cover the same work, Quote B is ₹708 lower than Quote A, not ₹4,772 higher. The AC is outside both quotes: if a technician charges, say, ₹2,000 to uninstall and reinstall it, that amount is added to both sides equally (₹14,980 against ₹14,272), so it does not change the comparison, but it does belong in your budget.

In this example, both quotes assume the safe handling needed at pickup for pieces that do not fit the lift; the destination stair and pickup long-carry lines are shown separately. There is no universal stair tariff implied.

Two more things to note from this example. First, the tax rate here is an assumption made only to complete the arithmetic; your mover should tell you the rate and base that apply to their invoice. Second, neither quote includes transit cover. If one of them did, you would either add the same cover to the other or take it out of both before comparing.

The method is simple: list one scope, ask every mover to price each line or mark it included, and compare totals only after the scope is identical.

Society deposits and the cash you need on moving day

Many Bangalore apartment societies ask for a deposit before a move-out or move-in is permitted, and some also levy a charge that is not refunded. The amounts and rules vary by society, so ask your association office well before the date. What matters for budgeting is that a refundable deposit is cash you need temporarily, not money you spend, unless something is deducted from it later.

In this example the move costs ₹15,272, but you need ₹23,272 available around the moving day, with ₹8,000 coming back once both societies complete their checks. Ask each society what the deposit covers, what can be deducted (lift damage, for instance), when it is returned and how. If you are a tenant, the refund of your rental security deposit is a separate matter again; it affects your cash position, not the cost of the move.

Also check the mover's payment terms: how much is due at booking, how much after loading and how much after delivery. An estimate that asks for most of the amount before loading changes how much cash you need on the day.

GST and transit cover: what the quote should spell out

GST

We do not print one GST rate for every move, because the applicable rate and the taxable base can depend on how the service is described and invoiced and on the mover's registration. Packing and moving services and goods transport can be treated differently for tax. Instead of asking "is GST included?", ask for these five things in writing:

1. How the service will be described on the invoice.
2. The GST rate applied.
3. The taxable value: the whole bill or only part of it.
4. The GST amount in rupees.
5. The final total, and the GSTIN that will appear on the invoice.

With these, you can compare two quotes properly even if one is written "inclusive" and the other "plus tax".

Transit cover

Transit cover is not automatic, and "full cover" should never be assumed from a verbal promise. If a quote offers cover, ask who provides it, what value it is based on, what the premium is, what it excludes, whether there is a deductible, and how and by when a claim must be raised. Ask specifically whether self-packed cartons and electrical or mechanical faults are covered, rather than assuming either way. A mover saying they will "take care of any damage" is not the same as a written policy, so get the terms on paper and keep a list of items with their condition at packing.

Bangalore building and timing factors that change the bill

Lift bookings

Many apartment buildings allow moves only through a service lift in a booked slot, and passenger lifts are often too small for a sofa or wardrobe. Book the slot at both ends before you lock the date, and share the timings with the mover. If the lift is not available, the crew has to use the stairs, and that changes the labour and the time, which is why the quote should state the access it assumes.

Gate passes, permissions and deposits

Some societies need a move-out permission, a list of items or a gate pass before the truck is allowed in. Sort this out a few days ahead. A truck waiting at the gate while the association office looks for a signature is time someone ends up paying for.

Vehicle approach and the last carry

Ask whether the truck can actually reach the building, where it will stop, and whether basement or gate height is a problem. If the answer is "main road, then carry", the carry distance should be in the quote. If a smaller shuttle vehicle is needed, that is extra handling and should be shown, not discovered on the day.

Traffic and goods vehicle timing

Movement of goods vehicles in parts of the city can be restricted at certain times, and rules and enforcement change. Rather than rely on a rule you read somewhere, ask the mover how they plan the vehicle's entry and travel for your date and route, and what happens if loading runs late. On a long cross-city move, a realistic start time matters more than any shortcut.

Rain

Bangalore gets rain across several months of the year. A sudden shower during loading is common enough that the quote should mention stretch film or covers for mattresses, sofas and cartons, and the crew should have a plan for the walk between the building and the truck.

Vehicle charges: the truck for your goods, and transporting a car or bike

"Vehicle charges" means two different things on a moving quote. One is the truck that carries your household goods. The other is transporting your own car or bike. Keep them apart when budgeting.

Choosing the right truck for household goods

As a rough guide, a small pickup suits a 1 RK or a few items, a mid-size truck suits most 1 and 2 BHK homes, and larger homes need a bigger truck or a container. Your actual volume matters more than the BHK label. A vehicle that is too small means a second trip or goods stacked too tightly; one that is too large costs more than it should and may not get into your lane. Ask the mover which vehicle they have assumed and why.

Car and bike transport charges from Bangalore

Car transport charges in Bangalore depend on the route, the carrier type and the car. Open carriers are the common option; enclosed carriers cost more. Bike transport depends on the route and how the bike is packed. The table shows published route bands where we have them.

Keep the RC and insurance papers handy, and ask how the vehicle will be packed or secured and what condition report you will get at handover.

Do not pay for the same space twice

If your bike travels in the household truck, list it in that inventory and agree its packing, handling and space charge. If it goes by a separate carrier, ask whether it has also been counted in the household vehicle estimate. Separate packing or collection can still be valid charges; the point is to identify what each line pays for. A separate car-carrier service should likewise be listed separately from the household truck.

Office shifting charges in Bangalore

Office shifting charges in Bangalore depend far more on what is in the office, and on the two buildings, than on the headcount. The bands below are indicative market planning figures for local office moves, not a fixed tariff from us.

Server migration, network reconnection and IT setup are not part of these bands. They should be agreed separately with your IT team or vendor. A mover can pack, label and move the hardware; getting systems back online is a different job.

Before asking for an office estimate, prepare a simple asset list, a seating plan for the new floor, and the loading dock and lift rules at both buildings. Many commercial buildings only allow moves after office hours or on weekends, and that affects crew planning. A phased move over two evenings may cost more in total than one long day, but it can keep the business running.

Timing and season: when you move affects the quote

Demand for movers in Bangalore tends to rise around the end and start of the month, when many leases change, and on weekends, when most families prefer to shift. The months around the school year change and the end of the financial year can also be busy for family and corporate moves. In busy periods you may get fewer slot options and less room to negotiate.

We are not going to promise a fixed percentage saving for any day or month, because it depends on the mover's bookings at that time. What you can do is ask for a quote for two dates, say a weekend and a weekday in the middle of the month, and see whether it changes. If your dates are fixed, book early enough to sort out society permissions and lift slots; that does more for the final bill than chasing a cheaper day.

On intercity moves, the timing question is mostly about mode. If you can wait a few extra days for delivery, a shared vehicle can be the better choice. If you need your goods on a specific day, budget for a dedicated truck.

Practical ways to spend less without cutting corners

1. Declutter before the survey. The inventory decides the vehicle and crew. Selling or giving away furniture you will not use is the most reliable saving.
2. Give a truthful, complete inventory. Leaving out the second fridge or the gym equipment to get a lower quote only moves the cost to moving day.
3. Pack non-fragile items yourself. Clothes, books and linen in sturdy cartons or suitcases save packing time. Leave glass, the TV and electronics to the crew, and check whether self-packed cartons are covered.
4. Book lift and gate slots at both ends. Waiting time and unplanned stair carries are avoidable costs.
5. Compare on one scope. Use the worked example above. A lower headline with missing lines is not a saving.
6. Choose shared or dedicated deliberately. For intercity moves, decide based on how fixed your dates are, then compare within that mode.
7. Arrange technician work early. Book the AC uninstall for before packing day and the reinstall for after unloading.
8. Ask for two dates. If your plans are flexible, a weekday quote may differ from a weekend one.
9. Do not save on safety. Skipping wrapping on glass, overloading a small truck or using untrained helpers for a heavy almirah can cost more than it saves.
10. Get the final estimate in writing. Include scope, exclusions, tax details, payment schedule and the date and time window.
