If you are moving back after many years, or out of a furnished flat in Bengaluru, a survey checklist saves arguments later.

• Separate what is yours. In a furnished rental, make a list of the landlord's items (beds, sofa, fridge) so nothing of theirs gets packed and nothing of yours gets left.
• Decide what is staying. Old appliances that are cheaper to replace in Kolkata than to ship 1,900 km are worth selling in Bengaluru.
• Check the Kolkata home. Will the family home have space, or are you going into a new flat? Is there a lift? Has anyone measured the staircase?

House Shifting from Bangalore to Kolkata

1 BHK shifting

Typical load: double bed or two singles, mattress, small wardrobe, sofa or two chairs, TV, fridge, washing machine and 15–25 cartons. Most 1BHK moves fit well in shared space. We dismantle the bed, wrap the mattress, pack the TV with foam on all edges, and drain and dry the washing machine before it is packed. Starting band ₹14,000–₹22,000, shared space from ₹12,000, subject to survey.

2 BHK shifting

Typical load: two beds, sofa set, dining table, fridge, washing machine, one or two ACs, wardrobes and 35–55 cartons. This is where you have to decide between shared and dedicated. A compact 2BHK can travel in part-load space at the band of ₹22,000–₹35,000. A full 2BHK with modular wardrobes, a glass dining table or a fixed delivery date is better in a dedicated vehicle, quoted by size after survey.

3 BHK and villa shifting

Typical load: three or more beds, full kitchen, heavy wooden or steel almirahs, multiple ACs, puja unit, books and 60–100 cartons. We plan these room by room, mark every carton with the room name in Kolkata, and decide in advance which pieces need crating and which need a technician. Starting band ₹35,000–₹55,000 for the lower end with consolidated space; a full 3BHK or villa normally needs a dedicated larger vehicle and is quoted after survey.

Car and Bike Transport from Bangalore to Kolkata: Costs

A 1,900 km drive is possible, but most people would rather not spend three or four days on the highway and then deal with the wear on the car. Your vehicle travels on a car carrier or, for two-wheelers, packed in a goods vehicle. Before loading we note the odometer reading, fuel level and existing scratches or dents, with photographs, and you sign that condition report.

Car transport charges

These bands are for an open multi-car carrier unless your quote says otherwise. An enclosed carrier costs more; if you want one, it should be written clearly in the quote. A word like "covered" on a rate card is not the same as an enclosed container. Follow the assigned carrier’s fuel instructions and manufacturer guidance, remove personal items and loose accessories, and agree FASTag handling and any authorised driven collection or delivery. Most carriers do not allow household goods to be packed inside the car.

Bike and scooter transport charges

Keep copies of the RC, insurance and PUC ready. If the vehicle will stay in West Bengal for a long time, check the current re-registration and NOC rules with the transport department; that is your paperwork, separate from the transport itself.

Office Shifting from Bangalore to Kolkata (Sector V, New Town, Park Street)

Companies moving a team or a small office from Whitefield, Electronic City, Bellandur or Manyata to Salt Lake Sector V, New Town or Park Street–Camac Street need a different kind of planning from a household move. What matters is accounting for every asset and getting the right person to sign at both ends.

• Asset list first: workstation number, asset tag, serial number for each monitor, CPU, laptop and router, plus file boxes by department. The same list is checked at loading and at delivery.
• Backups are your IT team's job: data should be backed up before any machine is unplugged. We pack hardware; we do not touch your data.
• Cables and labels: each workstation's cables bagged and labelled with its number, so setup at Kolkata is quick.
• Authorised handover: one named person signs at the Bengaluru end and one at the Kolkata end. We hand over against the list, not to whoever is at reception.
• Building rules: Sector V and New Town office buildings usually have loading bay timings, basement height limits, lift booking and a facility manager's approval. Share these with us before the vehicle is planned.
• Papers: business assets move with company paperwork such as a delivery challan or invoice, and an e-way bill where the rules require it for that consignment. Your accounts team decides this with us before dispatch.

Agree the packing, dispatch, receiving and IT setup sequence with the office coordinator and both facility teams. Reserve an appropriate cut-over window, prepare backups and test priorities, and allow time to reconnect and check workstations after the physical handover.

This is the single biggest decision on the Bangalore–Kolkata route. Here is what each actually means.

If your move is small and your dates are flexible, shared space is the sensible way to save money. If you have a fixed joining date, a family arriving to an empty flat, or furniture that should not be handled twice, a dedicated vehicle is worth the extra cost. We will tell you which way we would go for your inventory, and why.

Bangalore to Kolkata Distance, Route and Delivery Days

Observed city-pin driving options were about1,905km labelled NH16,1,951km via NH544D/NH544F andNH16, and1,868km via NH316A/NH16. Use roughly1,850–2,000km for planning; the actual figure depends on both service gates and the assigned goods-vehicle corridor. Confirm current works, diversions, permissions and weather before dispatch. A highway label is not a claim that the whole journey uses one road.

Delivery days, stage by stage

"How many days" really has five separate answers. Ask your mover to give you each one, not just a single number.

Request a status update from the team by phone or WhatsApp using your lorry receipt or docket number. The website update box prepares a WhatsApp message; it does not display shipment status automatically. A car or bike sent with a household move usually travels on a separate carrier and can arrive on a different day from your cartons. Plan for that, especially if you need the bike to get to work in the first week.

Monsoon and Humidity: Packing for a Bengaluru to Kolkata Move

Bengaluru is comparatively dry; Kolkata is humid for much of the year and very wet from roughly June to September, and the route runs along the coast through Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Moisture damage on this route almost always starts with something that was damp when it was packed, or goods kept in the open during unloading. Good packing is about keeping things dry, not about magic layers.

• Dry everything before packing. Defrost the fridge a day ahead and wipe it dry. Drain the washing machine and leave the door open for a day. Do not pack clothes straight off the drying line.
• Use the right barrier for the surface. Stretch film keeps dust and splashes off, but wrapped directly on a polished or lacquered wood finish in heat it can mark the surface. Polished wood gets a soft sheet or blanket layer first.
• Do not seal damp items in plastic. That traps the moisture inside. Small moisture-absorber packs can help inside a closed box of documents or clothes, but they are not a cure for a wet item.
• Electronics: original boxes where you have them; otherwise foam on all sides, a strong carton and clear "this side up" marking. TV and monitor screens get corner and face protection; nothing is stacked on them.
• Glass and mirrors: edge guards, taped faces and upright loading; large glass tops are crated if agreed.
• Covered staging at Kolkata: if it is raining on delivery day, unloading is done under a porch, stilt parking or covered area, not on an open road.
• Condition record: photographs of furniture surfaces and appliances before packing, so any change can be checked against them later.

Keep items dry before wrapping, assess moisture/heat-sensitive materials and agree a dry, covered handover path and staging room. Use packing compatible with the finish, screens and electronics, and keep a numbered condition record. Follow manufacturer storage guidance and identify any item that needs specialist handling instead of ordinary goods transport.

Antique and Heavy Wooden Furniture

A lot of Kolkata families have a teak almirah, a rosewood palang or a glass-fronted showcase that has to go back home. These pieces are worth planning properly.

• Condition first: note loose joints, cracks, old repairs and missing hardware, with photographs, before anyone touches it.
• Measure: height, width and depth, plus the destination staircase and doors. Some old pieces were built inside the room and will not go out the way they came in.
• Dismantle only if it was made to be dismantled. Have joints, condition and safe disassembly assessed; do not force an old fitting or assume every piece can be taken apart.
• Hardware: brass handles, keys, glass shelves and mirrors are removed, wrapped and packed with the piece, labelled.
• Surface-safe wrapping: soft layer on polished wood, then protection. No tape on the finish.
• Crating: agreed piece by piece, with the cost in the quote. Assess the piece’s construction, condition, glass, dimensions, safe support and lifting plan before deciding the protection.

Delivery in Salt Lake, New Town, Howrah and the Rest of Kolkata

Collect the full receiving details before booking so the assigned vehicle, crew and unloading slot match the actual building. Here is what to share for each address pattern.

New Town and Rajarhat: the address recipe

"Rajarhat, New Town, 700156" is not enough for a truck driver. New Town's own planning authority records plot number, premises number and complex as separate details, and the same Action Area can have dozens of large complexes with different gates. Send us:

1. Action Area (I, II or III) and the street or main road
2. Plot number and premises number
3. Complex or society name
4. Tower or block, floor and flat number
5. Which gate goods vehicles must use (service gate, not the main entrance), and any lift booking rule
6. Name and phone number of the person receiving, if not you

Many New Town societies want a move-in permission form, a fixed time slot and a lift padding arrangement. Ask your society office a week before.

Salt Lake (Bidhannagar): sector, block, plot

Salt Lake addresses follow sector, block and plot number, for example a house in a lettered block of Sector I, II or III. Give all three plus a landmark. For offices in Sector V, add the building name, floor, loading bay or basement entry, height restriction and the facility manager's number. Many Salt Lake residential lanes are narrow, so the size of vehicle that can stand near the house matters.

North and Central Kolkata: old buildings and narrow lanes

Shyambazar, Bagbazar, Hatibagan, College Street, Bowbazar, Bhowanipore and parts of Central Kolkata have beautiful old houses with narrow staircases, tight turns and lanes where a large vehicle cannot enter. For these addresses we ask for:

• Staircase width and the tightest turn or landing, measured, not guessed
• Measurements of your largest pieces: almirah, sofa, fridge height, double bed headboard
• Where the vehicle can actually stand and how far it is from the door (the long carry)
• Any permitted unloading time for that road

There is no single citywide truck entry window that fits every move. Permitted hours depend on the vehicle type, the road, the date and the traffic authority's current notification, along with your building's own rules. If a smaller vehicle is needed for the last stage, the goods are transferred and the package count is checked again at the transfer point. This cost should be discussed at survey, not discovered on delivery day.

South Kolkata

Ballygunge, Gariahat, Jadavpur, Tollygunge, Lake Gardens, Behala and Garia have a mix of apartments and older independent houses. Confirm the actual service gate, moving slot, usable lift and stopping point with the association. For older houses, the same checks as North Kolkata apply.

Howrah and the west bank vs the east side

Howrah, Shibpur, Santragachi, Liluah and Bally are on the west bank of the Hooghly; Salt Lake, New Town and the eastern side of the city are on the other side. Do not assume the route from an address like "near Howrah station" or from which bridge you would use in a taxi. Goods vehicles have their own permitted approaches. Give us the actual address and receiving gate, and we confirm the assigned approach for the vehicle size before dispatch.

Outer endpoints: Barasat, Barrackpore, Kalyani, Sonarpur, Baruipur

These are assessed as separate addresses, not as part of one flat "Kolkata" price. Distance from the city, road width and building access all go into the quote.

Addresses to include in the delivery survey

Give the exact endpoint from these existing coverage groups, with availability confirmed for the date and vehicle. Each address is assessed on its own distance, approach, gate, lift/stairs and carry scope; the list is not one unlimited city tariff or a fixed access rule.

Transit Cover, Damage and Claims

Transit cover is optional and is arranged on request. Confirm the premium, whether it is included or additional, and the selected policy before goods leave Bengaluru:

• Declared value: what you declare decides the sum insured and the premium. Check the valuation and under-insurance conditions in the offered policy.
• Type of cover: some policies cover only major incidents like accident or fire; others cover a wider range of damage. Ask which one you have.
• Exclusions and deductible: self-packed cartons, pre-existing damage and electrical or mechanical faults are commonly excluded.
• Claim time limits: the policy and your quote state how soon damage must be reported. Follow those, not a number from a website.

If you find damage

• Visible on delivery: write it on the delivery receipt before signing, with the carton or item number, and take photographs.
• Found while unpacking: some damage only shows up when a carton is opened a day or two later. Keep the packing material, photograph the item and the carton, and report it to us and, if you have cover, to the insurer as early as possible.
• Compare against the condition record made before packing. That is why the photographs at survey and packing matter.

Documents for Shifting from Karnataka to West Bengal

Used personal and household effects and business goods have different documentation requirements. Keep the inventory, consignment receipt, owner details and both addresses together; have the responsible accounts/transport team check applicable invoices or delivery challans, exemptions, thresholds and e-way bill validity for company assets, stock or new goods. Ask for the basis and receipt for any separately quoted statutory charge rather than assuming a blanket household border fee.

Best Time to Shift from Bangalore to Kolkata

Student Luggage, PG Room and Per-Box Shifting to Kolkata

Not every move needs a truck. Students joining or going back to Jadavpur, Presidency, IIEST Shibpur, ISI, IIM Calcutta at Joka or St. Xavier's, and bachelors moving out of a PG in Koramangala or Electronic City, usually need something much smaller.

Dispatch for small consignments goes with available shared loads on the route, so we will give you a delivery window, not a fixed departure day.

Your first day on campus or at the PG

• Books are heavy. Pack them in small cartons that one person can lift. A large carton full of books tears and makes stair carrying hard.
• Check what is allowed. Many hostels do not allow your own bed, almirah or induction cooker. Ask before you send furniture 1,900 km.
• Give the exact block and room, the hostel office hours, and a named receiver with phone number if you will not be there. "Jadavpur University" is not a delivery address.
• Keep with you: laptop, documents, admission papers, medicines and two or three days of clothes. Your luggage may arrive after you.
