Shifting in BTM Layout: What Actually Decides How Your Move Goes
BTM is a mix of everything. There are old independent houses turned into PGs with narrow staircases, newer apartment blocks with service lifts and strict society timings, and busy commercial stretches full of cafes, gyms and coaching centres. People use Byrasandra, Tavarekere and Madiwala names as well as 1st Stage and 2nd Stage when describing nearby addresses, so the exact building and map pin matter.
Because of this, we don't plan a BTM move on the basis of the area name. We plan it on the basis of your exact address and the building. A PG move inside BTM can take more time on the stairs than on the road.
Share the exact address, not just "BTM 2nd Stage"
- Stage, main and cross – for example, "BTM 2nd Stage, 16th Main, 7th Cross". Mains and crosses repeat between stages, so the stage matters.
- Building or PG name and floor, plus the landmark you usually give delivery partners.
- Pin code – confirm the full postal address and PIN from your rental or property documents rather than assigning it from the stage name alone.
- Two possible stopping points for the vehicle – the gate, and one fallback spot nearby in case the gate road is blocked by parked cars or a garbage pickup.
- The same details for the drop address, even if it is just one km away.
Roads like 16th Main, 29th Main, Udupi Garden and Silk Board
These are reference points, not fixed rules. 16th Main and 29th Main get crowded once shops and eateries open, and the Udupi Garden and Silk Board side gets heavy during office hours. Depending on where you are going, the route may not need Silk Board at all. We look at your pickup, drop, society timing and that day's traffic and then suggest a slot. Early morning often works well for busy stretches, but if your society allows moves only after 9 AM, that rule comes first.
Choose the Right Type of Move – Don't Pay for What You Don't Need
A lot of people in BTM overpay because they book "full house shifting" for a room's worth of stuff, or they under-book a mini truck and then the bed and fridge don't fit. Here is a simple way to decide.

Tip: When you compare quotes, compare the same scope. A low "starting price" for a vehicle is not the same as a full move with packing, two sets of stairs and helpers at both ends.
Students Moving In or Out of PGs Near CHRIST University
Many students in BTM stay in PGs and shared rooms close to CHRIST University's Central Campus on Hosur Road near Dairy Circle. A few things we have to make clear for student moves:
- A PG near the campus and the campus hostel are two different things. If you are moving into a hostel, the receiving address, entry gate and allowed timing come from the hostel office, not from the university's public address.
- Get permission for goods entry in advance and share the name of the person who will receive the items. Our vehicle can't enter any campus or hostel without that permission.
- Students moving between CHRIST campuses should give us the exact campus name, because they are in different parts of the city.
- We are an independent moving company. We are not connected with or appointed by any college, and we don't offer "campus rates".
For most student moves, the "vehicle + helpers" option with your own cartons is enough. If you are going home for good, look at the intercity section below – a few cartons and a cycle can go as a small part load.
Work-From-Home Setups: Plan for Your First Working Day
A lot of BTM residents work from home or follow a hybrid schedule. If you have a call at 10 AM the day after the move, packing the laptop charger inside carton number 27 is a real problem. Keep a separate "first working day" bag that travels with you, not in the truck:
- Laptop, charger, headset, mouse and any company access card or token
- Router and its adapter (and the ISP's shifting request number, if you've raised one)
- Phone charger, power bank, a small extension board
Company laptops and devices: check your company's policy. Some employers want company devices carried personally and not handed to movers. Take a backup of work files as per your IT team's rules.
Desks, monitor arms and UPS: we can pack monitors, desks and chairs. Show the monitor, arm and desk models during the survey and follow their compatible preparation instructions. Motorised standing desks, inverters and UPS batteries need model-specific assessment and authorised or qualified preparation where required; do not disconnect batteries or open mechanisms as a routine packing step. Our crew packs and moves them; they don't do electrical work.
Small Offices, Startups and Shops in BTM Layout
BTM has a lot of small offices, coaching centres, salons and boutiques. A small office or shop inventory may include workstations, stock and fittings, each needing its own count and receiving plan. What helps us plan:
- Inventory first – number of desks, chairs, cabinets, racks, computers and printers, and rough carton count for files or stock.
- Stock count and sealing – for shops, count and pack stock by category and seal it in front of your staff. Keep the billing machine, POS and cash drawer with your own people.
- IT release – your IT person or vendor should shut down and disconnect servers, networking and CCTV. We pack and move the hardware after that.
- Timing – evening or Sunday moves are possible if the buildings at both ends allow it. Tell us the building's rules for after-hours work.
- Specialist equipment – medical or clinic equipment, heavy machinery and anything that needs calibration is assessed separately. Sometimes the right answer is the manufacturer's own service team.
Building Access at Both Ends – Check These Before the Survey
Moving-day delays can come from a lift that is under maintenance, a wardrobe that won't turn on the staircase, or a security guard who wasn't told. Please check these for both the pickup and the drop building:
Lift
Is there a service lift? Note the door width and cabin depth. Ask if it can be booked or kept on hold during loading.
Stairs
Number of floors, how tight the turns are, and whether there's a grill or gate on the landing. Measure big items like wardrobes and sofas.
Carrying distance
How far from the gate to your door? Some blocks need the crew to walk 50–100 metres through a basement or a lane.
Parking and gate
Where can a truck stand? Do you need a gate pass, a society NOC or the crew's ID copies? Some societies want these a day before.
Allowed timing
Many societies allow moves only in certain hours. Confirm the slot and ask what happens if loading runs over.
Rain plan
Bangalore rain arrives without notice. Keep a covered spot near the gate or lobby where cartons can wait while the vehicle is positioned.
Once we have this, we fix a slot with you and keep a backup slot in mind. We'd rather tell you honestly that the society timing is tight than promise something on the phone and struggle on the day.
How Our BTM Layout Shifting Process Works
- Call or WhatsApp – share pickup and drop address, date, and a rough list of items.
- Survey – a short video call for PG and 1BHK moves; a home visit is better for 3BHK, villas and offices.
- Written quote – it should mention the scope (packing or not), vehicle type, number of helpers, what is included, what is extra, and payment terms. Ask for changes before you confirm.
- Packing – fragile items first, then kitchen, then clothes and books, furniture last. Cartons are labelled with room and owner.
- Condition check and loading – note existing scratches on furniture and take photos of costly items with the supervisor before loading.
- Transport – local moves go straight to the drop. For intercity moves you get a docket number to check status through our WhatsApp status-request option.
- Unloading and placement – cartons go to the room marked on them; standard furniture is put back together if it's part of your quote.
- Closing check – count cartons against the list, check items, and note any issue on the delivery receipt before signing.
How Different Items Are Packed
Glass, crockery, puja items
Wrapped individually with paper and bubble wrap, packed upright in strong cartons with filler, marked "fragile – this side up". Idols and puja items can be packed in a separate carton that you keep track of.
TV and monitors
Original box if you have it. Otherwise foam or bubble wrap, a corrugated sheet layer and corner guards. Remove wall mounts beforehand or tell us.
Fridge and washing machine
Prepare, drain and dry appliances following their actual manuals or qualified advice, allowing enough time before packing. Use transport bolts only where the model requires them and follow its installation instructions.
Beds and wardrobes
Standard beds and wardrobes are dismantled and screws are bagged and labelled to the matching part without adhesive against finished surfaces. Hydraulic beds, modular or wall-fixed wardrobes need to be checked during survey – mention them.
Paintings, mirrors, art
Corner protectors and bubble wrap; large pieces may need a custom carton or wooden frame, which is quoted separately.
Plants
Ask whether plants can be accepted for the actual route and duration. Species, soil, pot stability and receiving conditions matter; assess preparation and placement separately rather than sealing them with household cartons. Arrange an alternative if the offered transit is unsuitable.

What makes the price go up or down
- Actual volume – two people's 2BHK can be very different. Number of cartons and big items matters more than the BHK label.
- Floors and lift at both ends, and how far the vehicle can come to the door.
- Packing scope – self-packed cartons cost less than full packing.
- Society timing – a narrow slot may need more helpers to finish on time.
- Extras – unpacking, carpenter work on modular furniture, appliance installation by a technician, storage, or any parking or entry fee charged by the building.
- GST – ask whether the quote includes it.

Intercity Shifting from BTM Layout: Charges and How It Works
If you are relocating from BTM Layout to Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Kolkata or another city, the first decision is whether your goods go in a shared truck (part load) or a dedicated truck.
- Shared / part load – your goods travel with other customers' goods going the same way. Cheaper, but the truck leaves when the load is ready, so delivery takes longer.
- Dedicated truck – exclusive use for the accepted inventory; confirm dispatch and any handling or access transfer. Costs more, but timing is more predictable and there is less handling.

These route-specific budgeting references require the actual inventory, load mode, packing, access, dated dispatch and receiving scope. Shared or dedicated mode is named where the route guide distinguishes it; other bands do not automatically reserve an exclusive vehicle. A large home or every city beyond a distance threshold is not capped by one universal upper figure. Confirm tolls, applicable tax, cover and optional work; there is no automatic per-km add-on.
What happens between loading and delivery
- Loading day in BTM – packing, inventory list, loading.
- Consolidation (part load only) – the truck may wait at a hub until it has enough load for that route.
- Transit – request updates from the team by phone or WhatsApp using your docket number. The website update box prepares a WhatsApp message; it does not display shipment status automatically.
- Delivery slot – agreed with you a day or so before arrival.
Before you leave BTM, please share: a main receiver and a backup receiver with phone numbers, the new address with floor and lift details, and a simple room plan (which cartons go where). If the keys of the new flat will only come later, tell us early – goods can be held and delivered later, but holding and re-delivery are usually charged.
Check delivery and retain evidence. Record visible damage or shortages on the delivery receipt. For an issue found during later unpacking, retain the item, packaging and labels, photograph the evidence and report promptly in writing with the docket and inventory references under the applicable terms.

Car and Bike Transport from BTM Layout
Many people moving out of BTM take their bike or car along. A vehicle usually goes separately from household goods – a bike in a carrier truck or part load with proper packing, and a car in a car carrier. So the household delivery date and the vehicle delivery date may not be the same day.

Keep ready: RC copy, valid insurance, PUC, and an ID copy. Follow the assigned carrier’s fuel or battery preparation with manufacturer guidance. Transit Cover: Ask the Right Questions
Transit cover is optional and its cost and terms depend on the policy available at the time of your move, the declared value of your goods, the route and the type of items. Instead of a flat percentage, ask for these in writing with your quote:
- Which policy or cover is available for your move – local and intercity can be different
- Premium for your declared value
- What is covered and what is excluded (for example, self-packed cartons, cash and jewellery, electronics' internal faults)
- How and within how many days a claim must be reported, and what documents are needed
Whatever you decide, keep jewellery, cash, documents and laptops with you, and take photos of costly items before packing.
How to Choose Packers and Movers in BTM Layout
